Fetlar breakwater extension approved
Longer breakwater for Fetlar
The Shetland Islands Council has decided to extend the breakwater that’s currently being built in Fetlar. In a report at last week’s private Council meeting, Councillors heard that the overall project is expected to come well within budget. As the contractors are on site and as a longer breakwater is considered to provide more protection for small boats, it was decided to go ahead and extend the project by 40 metres. Councillor for the North Isles Robert Henderson, described the decision as a ‘win-win’ situation. He said “This is good news for the community and a good saving for the Council. Even with this increased work, the project is still expected to be within the original budget by around half a million pounds”.
