Following its arrival in Fetlar on the 26th of June, it has undergone a period of testing and driver training prior to going into service.
Robert Thomson Fetlar development worker said ”I’m pleased that the minibus is now finally here and entering service. It has full disabled access with space for up to two wheelchair passengers and once charged via the planned turbines its operation will be virtually carbon free. I am sure it will provide a fantastic service both to locals and visitors alike on the dial a ride service as well as offering an exciting range of new possibilities for the community. I am hopefully that it will act as an inspiration for other groups and organizations in Shetland to look at electric vehicles and other forms of low carbon transport .”
Lee Jamieson from RG Jamieson & Son commented “ We are delighted that the minibus is finally here, as it has been a long time in planning. Hopefully the new minibus will be a draw to bring extra visitors to the island. It is the first electric minibus in Shetland and hopefully will be at the forefront of many more electric vehicles coming to Shetland.”
