There are also a number of flatfish and dogfish species to be had. Please note, though, that herring, mackerel and some others are seasonal.

Fishing trips can be booked with Muckle Flugga Charters based on the neighbouring island of Unst.

Another option is Oberon charters, currently operating out of Cullivoe on Yell. They normally operate north of Unst and offer opportunities for record breaking fish. the following link contains an article showing the delights awaiting the keen angler.

The lochs of Fetlar also offer some excellent trout fishing, produce some fine specimens of Brown Trout particularly the loch of Papil. Please note that access to some lochs is restricted as they lie with RSPB reserve boundaries. Please check first with the local RSPB warden.

Sea trout can also be caught from the beaches, although not in as great numbers as in the past.
