Volunteering
Fetlar has a number of community organisations, and there are many opportunities for people on the island to volunteer.
Fetlar Community Association
The Fetlar Community Association runs the Community Centre and there are always opportunities there. The bar is open every Saturday and is staffed exclusively by volunteers who each do there bar duty and tidying for their week. When events take place there are also volunteers needed in the kitchen to prepare and serve meals ranging from tea and homebakes to full sit down meals.
The association also has its own high quality PA system and recording equipment, which offers additional opportunities.
Fetlar Playgroup/Youth Club
The Fetlar Playgroup/Youth Club runs sessions for the children and young people, organised and run by a voluntary committee
Fetlar Museum Trust
The Fetlar Museum Trust operates the Fetlar Interpretive Centre. All the Trustees are volunteers. There are significant opportunities for working with the Trust as a volunteer working on a range of Historical and Heritage projects, or if you have the time and would like to become more involved, why not put your name forward to become a Trustee.
Fetlar Hnefatafl Panel
The Fetlar Hnefatafl Panel, organises the World championships for this ancient Viking game as well as continually testing and experimenting with developments. Volunteers are always required to help making the game more widely accessable and helping to run the championship event.
Fetlar Senior Citizens Club
The Fetlar Senior Citizens Club offers volunteers the chance to work in a relaxed setting with older members of the community.
Fetlar Developments
Fetlar Developments offer the chance to volunteer in their Community Cafe run during the summer months. A further range of opportunities is under development
Please note that groups working with children or vulnerable adults will require volunteers to undergo disclosure checks prior to working with the group.
