Fetlar is one of the 100 Shetland Islands which lie at the "cross roads of the North Sea", roughly equidistant between Scotland, Norway and the Faroe islands.

Within Shetland, Fetlar lies to the South of Unst and to the East of Yell, its two larger neighbouring islands. Together they make up the three "North Isles" of Shetland.

Although Fetlar is the fourth largest island in Shetland, it has one of the lowest populations. While initially seeming to be very isolated it is not as difficult to reach as you might think. During the week, there are eight ferries per day to the island.
